Textanz Editor's Review

Textanz is an application created to analyze text and provide useful information, like phrase and word frequency, concordance, total number of words, etc. It helps you search the text for repeating words or phrases, highlighting them, for a quick look over.

This application is not a text editor. It only analyzes text, which you can copy from any document, therefore it won't affect the original file. There are some words that will be ignored when counting, but you can delete them from the default 'ignored word' list if you want, or add some words yourself to that list. Textanz will not count spaces or punctuation marks, and you can specify phrase ending marks yourselves, other then “.!?”.

After scanning the text, Textanz gives you results in the form of a list sorted by decreasing number of words per phrase and decreasing frequency of use. You can modify this criterion as well. The application is able to calculate the number of word forms for any word “root”, with a specified user-determined length. This method allows you to calculate the sum frequency of all derivatives.

The resulting analysis can be exported to a CSV file (comma separated values), one of the standard formats of Microsoft Excel.

Pluses: It shows many statistical information about a selected text, like the number of words and sentences, number of distinct words, etc.
